HIGH ON FIRE
High On Fire was doing a 4-day tour of the Northeastern states, so I thought I’d catch the first 2 days of it, starting with Richmond, VA (or RVA). The venue is a small dive bar, but they had excellent sound throughout the space. However, I could understand why Matt Pike doesn’t wear a shirt on stage and is dripping in sweat during the set – it’s stuffy and hot even on the floor, and I can’t imagine how hot it must be with all the spotlights and equipment running on stage as well. I was able to follow along with their setlist that I noticed stuck on their amps when they were first setting up, and while it took the anticipation away a little bit, it was still nice knowing that some of my favorites would be played.
Before and after the show, I made it down to GWAR bar, and it was quite packed for a Monday night, though sadly not with metalheads. I did see that the server Dorthia from Windhand works there, and she seems to be doing both a solo performance and a Windhand tour coming up in March. Here are some photos from their show in Sydney, Australia at the Newtown Social Club on its last days before closure.
